[ For a moment, Anne closes her hands around the rat like she's about to try to hide it from him, which is a completely ridiculous thing to do, and so out of spite against her instincts she just takes one hand away and holds the other out to show him. ]
When'd you get so high and mighty about not taking in strays?
[ Anne glances down at the rat, who's looking back up at her in an all-knowing sort of way. A little haughty, almost, but he's wearing it like that's justifiable. ]
[ Alright. Anne is devoted to a rat. Fuck it, he knows when to pick his battles. He puts his hands up and steps close enough to get a good look at the thing, and wiggles one finger at it. ]
[ The rat looks back at him with a kind of placid curiosity, nose twitching as it stretches out to sniff a little, and Anne flattens out her hand so it can settle on her palm. ]
[ His first instinct is to take offense, but there's no point in that, is there? Anne was reminded of Jack, so she took the thing home. That's as grand a gesture as he's going to get out of her, isn't it? ]
